Nevilles Cross and Crossgate Moor
Large Victorian and Edwardian houses and 1930s semis on the western hills, with long gardens that often slope. Raised decks with views are popular.
Gilesgate and Belmont
East of the river, steep streets with terraces and newer homes, many with gardens rising behind. Terraced decks and long flights of steps.
Framwellgate Moor and Merryoaks
Northern and southern suburbs with family homes from various decades. Gardens slope gently; decks often replace old patios.
Shincliffe and Sherburn
Shincliffe is an attractive village with stone houses and wooded gardens; Sherburn has a mix of older and newer homes.
Brancepeth, Bearpark and Witton Gilbert
Villages to the west, with stone houses, big gardens and woodland. Hardwood decks fit in well.
Bowburn
Newer homes south-east of the city with flatter gardens.
Hills and access
Across the city, the slope of a street usually tells you about the gardens behind it. Houses on the uphill side tend to have gardens rising behind them; on the downhill side they fall away. Many terraces have back lanes, which make deliveries easier; others are reached only through the house or up steps. We plan access at every survey.

FAQ
Do you cover Shincliffe and Sherburn?
Yes, both are within our regular area.
Do you work in the city centre near the cathedral?
Yes, though gardens there are few and often in the conservation area, so we plan carefully and check what's needed.
